Objective: This study was conducted to determine the difference in academic performance as measured by learning achievement between smokers and nonsmokers student in high school at district Parangloe. Methods : this research used Case Controldesign with student from senior high school 1 at parangloe as a population. Sampling technique that used was purposive sampling, and the male students of class X, XI, XII as the study sample. This study used a questionnaire smoking history, as a tool to measure the frequency and smoking status, and academic performance data from the School Achievement curriculum administration and teacher. This analysis using Chi-squre test analysis. Results: By using SPSS data processing 22 based formula Chi-Square df = 1 and α (0.05) obtained p value = 0102, this means that the value of p> α (0.05). Conclusion: There was no academic performance difference in smokers and nonsmokers student in high school at district Parangloe. However, cross-sectional analysis on students who smoke based on early age of smoking and smoking duration and the results that the students who smoke have an effect on academic performance. This study should be conducted with a cohort study design and attention to variables that can not be controlled to obtain maximum results. Keyword : Smoker, Academic Performance.
